DUAL TVET COURSES

Dual TVET is a cooperative training model where learners split their time between a TVET institution and a partner company.
It is modeled on Germany’s dual training system, adapted for Kenya.
The program is part of the Kenya–German “Promotion of Youth Employment and Vocational Training” initiative, supported by KfW Development Bank and AHK Services Eastern Africa.

Workplace Integration: Students spend significant time in real companies, applying classroom theory to practical tasks.
Industry Partnerships: Training institutions collaborate with private sector firms to deliver relevant skills.
Competency-Based: Courses are structured around skills and competencies rather than just exams.
Employment Focus: Graduates are more job-ready, with direct exposure to workplace culture and expectations.

According to the Ministry of Education and the Dual TVET Guidebook:

Automotive Engineering – training with garages and vehicle service companies.
Electrical & Electronics Engineering – partnerships with energy and manufacturing firms.
ICT & Digital Skills – collaboration with tech companies for software and hardware training.
Hospitality & Tourism – training in hotels, restaurants, and tourism enterprises.
Construction & Building Technology – practical training with construction companies.
Agribusiness & Food Processing – partnerships with farms and agro-processing industries.

Higher employability: Students graduate with both academic knowledge and workplace experience.
Employer confidence: Companies trust graduates who have trained within industry settings.
Skill relevance: Training is tailored to actual labor market needs.
